Englewood Information
Englewood is one of Florida’s best kept secrets. Located in the South end of Sarasota County and West Charlotte County along the Gulf of Mexico, Englewood has something for all ages without being “over developed.” We have much to offer the future resident, beautiful sandy beaches, championship golf courses, the finest in sport fishing, year round water sports, spectacular weather, and so much more.
Englewood still has that small town feel and yet the area offers the same amenities that a large city does. Education opportunities are plentiful for students of all ages. Elementary school age children may attend one of 3 elementary schools. There is one middle school and one high school. An alternative private school is offered at the Heritage Christian Academy. Continuing education programs are offered by Lemon Bay High School and Manatee Community College. There are several other post secondary schools within a 30 minute drive of Englewood.
If it’s shopping or dining you are craving, then we have that too! Whether you are in the market for quaint local arts and crafts, designer clothes or delicious food, you’ll find it all here.
Our beaches and wildlife areas are a source of local pride. Gardening enthusiasts join with local interest groups and extension services to help keep Englewood natural and beautiful. Nature lovers will be delighted with what the area has to offer. Bald Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Sand Hill Cranes, and Osprey are among the few species of birds that call Englewood home. West Indian Manatee graze, play, mate and give birth to their young in the waters of Lemon Bay and surrounding creeks, coves and canals. It is not unusual to see bottlenose dolphins playing in the surf on the beach, or diving and jumping elsewhere in Lemon Bay, anytime of the year. One of the most spectacular happenings in Englewood is the annual sea turtle nesting season. The sea turtles lumber from the sea on dark nights to lay their nests high on our beaches. In approximately six weeks these eggs will mature, and again on a dark night, the hatchlings will scamper toward the waves and swim out to sea.
All services for fishermen can be found in Englewood. You’ll find that whether you are standing on a bridge, a pier, or on a beach along the mangrove shorelines, fishermen consistently bring home several varieties of fish. Just to the south of Englewood is Boca Grande, also known as the “World’s Capital for Tarpon Fishing”. Fishermen from around the world flock to this area every year to compete in the annual tarpon tournament. Offshore, natural and artificial reefs are habitats for King Mackerel, Shark, Grouper, Black Fin Tuna, and many other species of fish.
Are you in the mood for a relaxing round of golf? You will not be disappointed in the wide range of opportunities offered, from championship courses to pitch-n-putt.
These are just a few reasons to relocate to Englewood. Be sure to check out The Englewood-Cape Haze Chamber of Commerce website to familiarize yourself with the many reasons why living in Englewood is “just another day in paradise!”
